Incorporating Feng Shui In Your Home

Feng shui is an excellent way to bring tranquility and positive energy to our homes. Thanks to its simplicity, one may achieve a better state of mind and mood. However, incorporating feng shui in your interior design can be overwhelming. Where do you begin from? How do you do it?

What Is Feng Shui?

Feng shui is based on ancient Chinese philosophy, which means to optimize “Chi,” a permeating force. It is the art of arranging and placing objects to enable the flow of Chi, attaining healthier and balanced surroundings.

Feng shui works with five core elements to facilitate the entire process:

  • Earth – controls physical health, balance, and stability.
  • Water – symbolizes wisdom and spirituality.
  • Wood – represents growth, vitality, and creativity.
  • Fire – embodies passion, energy, enthusiasm, and transformation.
  • Metal – represents logic, precision, and efficiency.

Ways To Create Feng Shui In Your Home

Bringing feng shui to your home can enhance many aspects of your life and brighten up your living environment. These are a couple of ways to create feng shui in your home, welcoming positivity and harmony.

Clear Your Entryway

The entryway is the first place to clear and brighten when you want to generate feng shui in your home. Declutter and remove any debris or extra objects collected at the front door and thoroughly clean the entire area, including your door, doormat, doorframe, etc. Add or change the lighting to ensure the area is bright and well-lit.

Commanding Positions

One fundamental principle in feng shui is the commanding position, meaning that specific objects ought to be facing the door. The commanding position is applied to furniture pieces such as bed (representing you), desk (representing your career), and stove (representing your wealth). The point is that you should be able to see your door when you are in your bed, working at your desk, and cooking at the stove.

Add Plants

Plants represent earth elements, bringing stability, balance, and freshness to your life. Hence, add as many plants as possible to your home.

Some plants that help you discover positive Chi include:

  • Aloe Vera
  • Ficus
  • Star Jasmine
  • Peace Lily
  • Lucky Bamboo
  • Banana Leaf Plant

Mindful Colors

Add some of these colors to your interiors based on what elemental energy you need:

  • Earth: If you need a little bit of stability, add earthy tones of orange, yellow and brown.
  • Water: Black and blue accents help provide wisdom.
  • Wood: You can add life energy to your place through teal color.
  • Fire: Bring fire energy and passion with red color.
  • Metal: White, off-white, gray, and metallic brings clarity and vision.
